As winter settles in, Elkin transforms into a cozy haven for outdoor enthusiasts, small-business shoppers, and those seeking a bit of holiday cheer. Whether you're hitting the trails, savoring local treats, or learning more about the people and businesses that make Elkin unique, December is the perfect time to explore this charming town. Let’s dive into what makes Elkin so special this month!
Faces of Elkin: Keri Boyer
In this month’s “Faces of Elkin” segment, we’re highlighting Keri Boyer, an integral part of the local community. Keri has been a steadfast advocate for Elkin’s growth and well-being, playing a key role in supporting local initiatives, events, and projects that make Elkin a thriving place to live and visit. Whether she's running one of our favorite local shops, American Aquatic, or participating as a smiling face at a local event, Keri’s passion for Elkin is evident. As a transplant in Elkin from Florida, we have loved getting to experience her flourishing in Elkin firsthand. Stop by American Aquatic or say hello at a local function, and you'll see her passion for Elkin firsthand!
An interview with Keri Boyer:
Can you share a favorite memory from your early days in Elkin that solidified your connection to the community?
Before moving to Elkin, I used to visit my best friend here and always had an amazing time. We would go hiking, explore the local wineries, and just soak in the beauty of the area. I’ll never forget going to Southern on Main when they used to have Karaoke nights – those were such FUN times, full of laughs and great memories.
What local events or initiatives have you been most proud to support or participate in?
I've always loved our Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival. It holds a special place in my heart because it coincided with the grand opening of our Elkin shop back in 2019. It's such a joy to see the community come together, drawing in visitors from near and far to celebrate the season. Elkin truly thrives in the fall—there’s something magical about the crisp air, the vibrant colors, and everyone embracing the season in their cozy hoodies. It’s a time when the town feels alive and full of energy!
Elkin is known for its small-town charm and community spirit. How have you been able to see this firsthand through the lens of your role at American Aquatic?
Being able to offer premium apparel to our guests helps ensure their memories of Elkin will be everlasting. It’s wonderful to know that something as simple as a well-made hoodie or shirt can serve as a special reminder of their time here, bringing them back to the experiences and connections they had during their visit.
As someone who interacts with so many people, what’s the most rewarding part of being involved in local events and projects?
I love having an impact on our visitors by helping in any way I can and ensuring they have a great experience. Whether it’s offering a warm welcome, sharing local tips, or simply being there to assist in the shop, it’s so rewarding to know I can contribute to their enjoyment of Elkin and all it has to offer.
